Eliminating Crawl Space Odors

If it smells like something died in your under-the-house, under-the-stairs, next-to-the basement or top-of-the-house storage space . . .  it may have.  Dead and decomposing animals such as mice are not uncommon in a crawlspace. A more common cause of dank, musty air in your crawl space is dampness.

No matter what the cause, what you want is to eliminate the odor and the problem. We can help.

  • The most common cause of crawl space odor is excess moisture. Humidity and dampness cause that dank, musty smell we’re all familiar with.  This is a particular problem in areas with chronic humidity (because without ventilation the crawl space has no way to dry out) and in unfinished spaces with exposed dirt floors and/or lack of any insulating material against a porous outside wall. If there are any cracks in the foundation or leaking or sweating pipes running through your crawl space, this will also contribute to a moisture problem.
  • To eliminate damp odors caused by excess moisture coming from your crawl space, you need to find a way to dry out or de-humidify the air. DampRid Moisture and Odor Absorbers are the original non-electric dehumidifiers, perfect for crawl spaces because they require no power and don’t need to be monitored.  You simply place a container in the space and the all-natural crystals will absorb moisture and moisture problems.
