It’s estimated that 60% of basements leak. Finding water patches on your concrete basement floor or water stains on your foundation walls tells you that you have a problem.

If you have water wicking up from under the surrounding soils into your concrete, you've got a much bigger problem. For this you may need to call a professional.

Leaky or busted pipes, roof leaks, leaking washing machines or overflowing toilets are other sources of wet concrete. If you live in a very dry climate, just ventilating the area might be enough to quickly dry the moisture. If the floor is covered with carpet or other types of flooring, they will probably need to be removed.

If you live in a humid climate, it is the rainy season, or you have had a huge flood that has soaked the concrete, you will need to take more drastic steps. It’s not enough to simply mop up from the surface, as concrete is porous and the water may have completely soaked into it.
