Moisture Control for Your Boat

Moisture control is an ongoing issue on boats – and especially those with cabins. If not removed on a consistent basis, dampness and humidity cause problems such as creating musty and unpleasant odors, enabling rust to develop, and causing rot and damage to wood, carpet, upholstery, fixtures and electronics.

A boat is a substantial investment – to keep that investment ship-shape, always include preventative measures to control boat moisture as part of your regular boat maintenance.

The big question of course is how to eliminate dampness on a boat when by their very nature they are in and on water and so often in humid climates to boot.

One answer is to ventilate interior areas by opening the hatch on drier days while the vessel is moving slowly. This circulates fresh dry air throughout the cabin.  Often, though, this is not enough and some type of dehumidifier is called for to keep damage from dampness occurring.

The quickest, easiest, most cost-effective and most maintenance-free way to help remove excess dampness from a boat is to use DampRid Moisture Absorber products as your dehumidifier.

DampRid Easy-Fill System Moisture Absorbers are an inexpensive, practical solution to the problem of excess moisture and rot due to high humidity. DampRid pulls excess moisture from the air, so it can't seep into the carpeting, upholstery or electronics compartments. Place the container where the most moisture enters the boat – the hatches, windows or vents. Tight, enclosed spaces like forepeaks and berths are also moisture traps.

Controlling moisture in a stored vessel can be an even bigger challenge than for a boat you’ve got in the water on a regular basis. Both the interior of the boat and all its contents can be directly damaged by accumulated moisture during winter storage or long periods of inactivity. While you are not using your boat, excess moisture may well be causing aggressive metal corrosion, and wood rot. If you haven’t taken proper measures to keep things dry, when you put the boat back into the water, you might find areas of damage and destruction.  Here again, DampRid can help rid your boat of the excess humidity that leads to all these problems, and keep it safe and dry while in storage.

The Advantages of DampRid Easy-Fill Moisture Absorbers include:

  • Keeping humidity level low
  • Eliminating musty odors
  • Cost-effective, easy-to-use, refillable
  • Requires no electricity

DampRid is the original non-electric dehumidifier. This convenient and inexpensive product is small enough to fit anywhere you need it, yet effective enough to do the job of controlling excess humidity. Use DampRid to protect the value of your boat, both in the water and out.

I wouldn't be without it!
